Velvet Garden Update 1.2


This update is long overdue. I've started making it shortly after the Update 1.1, with the vision of adding "Patches" as a tool to change the numbers in game. Then I forget about it for a few years. In January 2025 I remember about this game and decide to patch up all the problems with the game and make it overall more usable.

In short, I've tried to migrate this project to Godot 4, realized that it's impossible due to how I've programmed this game. I've made a tool called "VGTailor" for easier creation of custom content for the game (Decks, Palettes, Patches). I've made a lot of progress with the update. And then I lost all the files. Out of anger I've re-done everything in part 2 of the update in two days. I didn't want to redo the tool all over again so I didn't bother. Maybe I'll make it later.

At the end of the day, who did I make this for? Myself.

There are at most 2 people who have downloaded this game since the original jam. I've done all this work just for me and this shitty little game that I care about a lot. I love Velvet Garden :)

Velvet Garden Update 1.2 Changelog:

    PART I:

        Credits:

            -You can now press <Z> to skip credits scene

        Menu:

            -You can now press <SHIFT>+<UP> to hide conveyors on both sides of the screen

            -You can now press <SHIFT>+<LEFT>/<SHIFT>+<RIGHT> to change bgm in menu

        Gameplay:

            -Changed attack animation times to be faster (now 0.02-0.2 ms per tick, previously 0.05-0.33 ms per tick)

        Visual:

            -Most of the sprites received slight changes

            -New color palette: Bleak Orange

        Customization:

            -You can now add your own palletes to the game via .vpt files in Palettes/ folder

            -You can now customize units and their stats with patchfiles (NOTE: do not edit default.json as its used as a fallback)

    PART II:

        General:

            -The game now boots up in 640x576 resolution (4x scale)

            -DEFAULT, BGB and VELVET GARDEN are now the only default palettes in the game. Additional palettes are included as .vpt files in Palettes/ directory

            -Keys like <SHIFT> and <SPACE> now display correctly

            -Holding <SHIFT> during an info screen wont display skip timer text

            -Skip timer now displays correctly during gameplay

            -You can now set starting AP and HP with a patchfile

            -You can now set the amount of cards to be drawn each round with a patchfile

            -You can now set the amount of extra cards to be drawn if player's hand is empty when the turn starts with a patchfile

            -In-game, shuffle button has been replaced by a dummy sprite and no longer has any functions

            -Player 2 now draws one extra card at the start of the game

            -The game now prevents a turn change when player wins with no AP left

            -You can now start the game by pressing <SPACE> on arcade menu

        Config:

            -"keymaps.cfg" has been renamed to "conf.cfg"

            -The game has been set to low processor mode (you can change it by editing "low_cpu" value in conf.cfg)

            -You can now automatically disable main menu conveyor by editing "mm_show_conveyor" value in conf.cfg

            -You can now limit FPS by editing "set_fps" value in conf.cfg
